Candidate FAQs
Completing your background check
What you'll need, how your information is protected, and your rights, including getting a copy of your report and disputing anything that's wrong.
About the email you received
Why did I get an email from eScreenly?
An employer you applied to, or work for, asked eScreenly to run a background check as part of their hiring process. The email names the employer and contains your personal link.
How do I know it's legitimate?
Your link starts with https://verify.escreenly.com, and the email names the employer you applied to. eScreenly will never ask for your Social Security number or documents by phone, text or on any other website. If in doubt, ask the employer whether they requested a background check.
I can't find the email, or my link has expired.
Check your spam or junk folder. Links last seven days; if yours has expired or doesn't work, ask the employer to send you a new invitation.
Completing your check
What do I need?
About ten minutes, a phone or computer, your Social Security card and a government-issued photo ID: a Driver License, State ID or U.S. Passport. You'll also take a selfie. There's no account to create and nothing to download.
Why do you need my Social Security number and documents?
Your details are used to search the right records, and your documents and selfie let an eScreenly specialist confirm that you are who you say you are, so no one else's records end up in your report. They're encrypted, and the employer never sees your documents or your full Social Security number.
Can I stop and finish later?
Yes. Your progress is saved on the device and browser you started on, until you submit or your link expires. If you open the link on a different device, you'll start again from the beginning.
My name is wrong on the form.
Your first and last name come from the employer. Contact them to correct it before you continue.
Why do I have to sign with my name?
Your typed name is your electronic signature on the authorization. It has to match the name you entered, with or without your middle name.
I was asked to upload new documents.
Sometimes a photo is too blurry, cropped or dark to read. You'll get an email explaining what's needed; open your original link to upload new photos. Make sure all four corners are visible, the text is readable and there's no glare.
Your report and your rights
What will my report include?
The searches listed on the disclosure page of your check, which the employer chose. Records that don't belong to you, or that the law doesn't allow to be reported, are left out.
Who sees my report?
Only the people at the employer who make hiring decisions. Your identity documents stay with eScreenly.
Can I get a copy of my report?
Yes, for free. Check the box when you sign, or email [email protected] with the reference shown after you submit. Some states give you additional rights, which are explained on the notice pages of your check.
What if something in my report is wrong?
You have the right to dispute incomplete or inaccurate information under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Email [email protected] with your reference and what's wrong. We'll reinvestigate, generally within 30 days, and correct or remove information we can't verify.
What if the employer decides not to hire me because of my report?
Before making a final decision based on your report, the employer must send you a notice with a copy of the report and a summary of your rights, and give you a chance to respond. You can use that time to point out errors or share context.
How is my information protected?
Your details and documents are encrypted, only the specialist working your check can open your documents, and every access is logged. eScreenly never sells your information.
Still have a question?
Email [email protected] with the reference shown after you submitted, and we'll help.
